New funding partners needed for Energy Sparks

We are seeking new funding partners to enable our next phase of growth and to allow us to continue to support existing schools with a free or subsidised service.

Energy Sparks has seen significant growth since last year. We currently provide our school specific energy management tool and education programme free of charge to over 900 schools, compared to just 250 in April 2022. We expect this growth to continue to accelerate as schools come under increasing pressure to reduce their energy usage.

Many of our schools have seen significant savings of 10-20% since engaging with Energy Sparks. Pupils have been inspired and motivated to carry out and record energy saving activities.

What are we looking for from new funders?

Our funding to date has come from a range of sources, including UK government grants (DfE, BEIS and Welsh government), local authorities, charitable foundations and sponsorship from small businesses.  With major cuts in public sector funding, we are now looking for new funding partners. New funding would primarily be spent to support our staff team to provide ongoing energy education, advice and support to schools.  We would also use funds to enhance our energy management tool and improve its functionality, usability and scalability.

What’s in it for you?

In addition to helping schools cut emissions and costs and helping educate and empower pupils to take action on climate change, there are clear reputational benefits to funders’ involvement.  For example, both the OVO Foundation and Centrica have used us as a case study for their social and community engagement (https://www.ovofoundation.org.uk/a-spotlight-on-energy-sparks/; https://www.centrica.com/sustainability/energy-for-tomorrow/).  We would be delighted to discuss how funding Energy Sparks could become a highly visible part of your corporate social responsibility or wider sustainability activities.
