Energy Efficiency in Schools 2023
Over the past year, the number of schools that Energy Sparks supports has grown four fold. We are now releasing our first annual ‘Energy Efficiency in Schools’ report. This report aims to highlight some of the issues facing schools when it comes to energy efficiency. We also focus on what low cost, or no cost measures can reduce energy consumption and celebrate some of our schools that have taken action this year.
A few highlights from our report:
- Over 1,000 schools are now using Energy Sparks to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint
- More than 500,000 pupils have access to education opportunities to improve energy and carbon literacy
- 90 Multi-Academy Trusts and Local Authorities are benefitting from better energy management for their schools
- During autumn term 2022, Energy Sparks schools reduced their energy use by an average 12%, compared to autumn term 2021
- The best performing schools this year have achieved annual energy savings of over 40%
We share real life examples of how schools have used the Energy Sparks platform to identify high energy use and make adjustments to address this. Schools have reduced the amount of gas used during weekends and holidays – with one school saving £4,500 during the Christmas holidays. Another school saved over £11,000 over the last year through better management of their storage heaters. One of our academies is expecting to save over £20,000 this year after installing an automatic shutdown of all networked IT equipment each evening.
