Energy Savers Week (19-25 Jan): Ideas for schools

Next week (19th-25th January) is Energy Savers Week – an ideal time for you and your pupils to take action on climate change while cutting costs at your school. Here are some simple ideas for how eco-clubs and facilities teams can get involved throughout the week.
Ideas for your eco-club:
- Monday: Talk about energy saving in assembly.
- Tuesday: Dig into your data! A great place to start is to review your school’s energy use over the Christmas holidays – does your data match your expectations? If you used more energy than you anticipated, what could you do better next time?
- Wednesday: Label lights and appliances to show which can be switched off.
- Thursday: Create holiday and classroom switch-off lists.
- Friday: Use your shiny new lists and switch off for the weekend!

Ideas for caretakers/facilities teams:
- Monday: Check your heating’s frost protection settings.
- Tuesday: Change your central heating operating times.
- Wednesday: Change your central heating’s set temperature.
- Thursday: Adjust radiator thermostats.
- Friday: Switch heating off for the weekend.
